In this paper, a series of experiments have been done on chemical stability and physical properties of alginate fiber. Reactive and directive dyes were used for dyeing the fiber with receiving a good looking, dyeing capacity was made certain, Kinetics and Thermodynamics of fiber were evaluated in this research.Rare earth elements cerium is chemically active, and it has a strong complex-forming tendency under proper condition. Taking cerium nitrate as accelerant, we tested the main influence factors in the dyeing process, and determined their dosage, such as dyes concentration, bath pH, dyeing time, the amount of additives and temperature to ascertain dyeing optimum technological conditions. Experiments showed that rare earth complexes of citric acid could improve the dye uptake and washing fastness of alginate fiber significantly.Employing Eversol Blue Cew to dye the alginate fiber, we have carried out experiments on kinetics and thermodynamics of dyeing and compared dyeing thermodynamic parameters (Affinity-Δμ0, Dyeing heatΔH0 and Staining entropyAS0) and kinetic parameters (Diffusion coefficient D, Half-dyeing time t1/2 and Dyeing rate constant) of alginate fibers and wools. The results showed that the absorption mechanism of dyeing alginate fiber and wool with reactive dyes for wool meet the type of Langmuir. Staining entropy was larger which showed that the affinity between alginate fiber and Eversol Blue Cew was great. The influence of raising temperature was more obvious to alginate fiber than wool. To the alginate fiber and wool dyed with Eversol Blue Cew, the value of K'was larger with the raising of temperature. At the same temperature, K'of alginate fiber was higher than wool.
