In order to improve the corrosion resistance of flaky aluminum powder, research of copolymers coating on the surface of flaky aluminum powder(FAl) was carried out, to prepare organic copolymers/aluminum composite particles with core-shell structure. The reaction time, reaction temperature, the dosage of initiator, the amount of monomers and proportion of the two monomers were systematically studied, which have effect on anticorrosion efficiency(J), the conversion of monomers(C) and the percentage of coating (PC) during the process. In addition, the properties of resulting composite particles were evaluated and characterized.First, butyl acrylate-acrylic acid copolymers/flaky aluminum (P(BA-AA)/FAl)composite particles were prepared by solution polymerization.The results show the best conditions were as follows:the reaction time is 3h, reaction temperature is 70℃, the amount of initiator is 0.2g, the amount of monomers m(BA-AA)/m(Al) is 50%, the proportion of the two monomers is 1/1~2/1. The anticorrosion efficiency of the gained composite particles reaches 73.8%, and its corrosion resistance had been enhanced. The composite particles were analyzed and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM),energy dispersive spectrum(EDS),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,and the results proved that copolymers existed on the surface of aluminum powder.Then, butyl acrylate-styrene copolymers/flaky aluminum (P(BA-St)/ FAl) composite particles were prepared by emulsion polymerization. The results show that the composite particles with good corrosion resistance were prepared under the condition as follows:the amount of the emulsifier is 0.08g, reaction temperature is 80℃, reaction time is 4h, the amount of initiator is 0.04g, the amount of monomers m(BA-St)/m(Al)is 50% and the proportion of the two monomers mBA/mSt is 1/1. The anticorrosion efficiency of the composite particles reaches 76.86%。Compared with the raw flaky aluminum, the content of C, O and Al for P(BA-St)/FAl changed from 7.03%,2.64% and 90.33% to 23.38%, 14.60% and 62.02%, respectively, indicating that flaky aluminum powder was coated by copolymers.
