In the research of indoor air pollution and atmosphere pollution, the health andenvironment problem caused by indoor decoration is stressed gradually.Especially thelarge amount of toxic volatile organic compounds(VOCs) volatiled from the adhesiveand coating used for indoor decoration can hurt the human health deeply once thiskind of gases are inbreathed for a long time. VOCs influence the formation of ozoneand aerosol. It is meaningfull to analyze the VOCs of adhesive and coating.A cryo-concentrated system combined with gas chromatography/massspectrometer (CCS-GC/MS) was developed and optimized for analyzing the volatileorganic compounds of building products. Volatile organic compounds(VOCs) inbuilding products samples collecting from different markets were subjected to beidentified and quantified by the CCS-GC/MS method. This method was accurate andreproducible, providing a potential approach for quality control of building products.The conclusion from the adhesive analysis is as following.The major VOCs ofwater-based adhesive are aromatic hydrocarbons and esters, highest amount VOCsis methyl benzene. The major VOCs in solvent adhesive is alkane,cyclanes,aromatic hydrocarbons. TVOC amount in water-based adhesive is much lowerthan solvent adhesive.Coatings are divided to water-based and solvent coating, the major VOCs inwater-based coating is aromatic hydrocarbons,meanwhile esters and alkane, aceticether is the highest amount VOCs,TVOC amount is 2.47 g/kg. Compared withsolvent coating.The major VOCs determined are aromatic hydrocarbons, esters, alkane. Theamount of TVOC is 202.79 g/kg much higher compared with water-based coating.VOCs amount of three kinds solvent coating(Alkyd varnish,nitrocellulosevarnish,polyamin ester varish) is various.prime VOCs in nitrocellulose varnish isaromatic hydrocarbons and esters, halohydrocarbon is determined as well.Highestamout of VOCs is butyl acetate(13.46 g/kg) and methyl benzene (8.82 g/kg)。Prime VOCs in polyamin ester varish is aromatic hydrocarbons and esters,highestamount VOCs is butyl acetate (19.38 g/kg)and ethyl benzene(13.50 g/kg). Prime VOCs in Alkyd varnish is aromatic hydrocarbons and alkane,Highest amountVOCs is decane and methyl benzene.High amount of aromatic hydrocarbons is found in these thre kinds of varnishs.Alkyd varnish contains larg amoung alkane, nitrocellulose varnish is determined highamount halohydrocarbon and cyclanes, TVOC Amount in nitrocellulose varnish ishigher than the other two kinds of varnishs.Solvent coating contains higher amount VOCs compared with water-basedcoating,both the kinds of coating contain high amount aromatic hydrocarbons, amountof water-based is much lower.Water-based coating is safer and environmental,thetoxic effect toward human body is mere.Water-based coating is the kind of productworth greatly promoted.Analytical data of the experiment could be regarded as a evaluation standard forthe indoor air and construction materials safety.
