Styrene-acrylate latex was synthesized by styrene, acrylate and small amount of acrylic acid. This kind of latex was widely applied in the coating industry. Styrene-acrylate latex was good at weatherablity, water resistance, alkali resistance and erasure. It is easy to adjust the function of the latex by changing the recipes and process parameters.Different emulsion recepes and process parameters could be designed through controlling the process parameters and raw monomer feed. Different styrene-acrylate latex could be manufacrure via the whole process parameters tracing. la tex A is exterior wall coating and B latex is interior wall coating.In the thesis, the parameters of emulsion viscosity, solid content and pH are investigated. After studying those key controlling parameters, the process parameters are to be optimized.Combination of the different monomers could change the emulsion function, such as the physical, chemical and mechanical characteristics of the final film. The combination of different monomers would decide many charactertics, such as latex film, caking capacity, paint physical and protective properties.Viscosity is one key parameter of the latex. It need fit viscosity for application. When viscosity is high, the emulsion would not show good leveling and paint film polish characteristic. Otherwise the emulsion show curtain, penetrating into the basic capillary channel. That effect was to make the basic hard and polymer losing.The size and distribution of the particleeffected on the appearance of the product, it will effect the viscosity, surface tension and Ca2+ and Mg2+ stability .The controlling of reaction temperature is not only necessary for manufacturing, but also for the quality of final latex. T The different reactivity ratios of two monomers under different temperatures. With the same receipe, the parameter of temperature is essential for monomers conversion, emulsion viscosity, particle size, chain structure and film-forming temperature.
