Particle reinforced iron matrix surface Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis coatings were successfully fabricated by V-EPC casting penetrating technologies. In this paper, SHS (Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis) containing Ti-C and Ti-C-Fe system are applied to prepare particle reinforced steel matrix composite.The paper studied the influence for the surface quality of composite on SHS system, density of preform, the position of composites and so on. When SHS Ti-C system is applied to prepare composites, quality of composite layers is improved when density of perform (50%~60%) is increased. When density of preform is than 60%, quality of composite layers is deteriorative. When density of preform is 65%, the composite don't be prepared successfully. The dimension precision study indicate when the position of the surefae two SHS systems are applied to prepare composite , the dimension precision is good , the grade is CT5 to CT8, when the position of pouring is at bottom of casting, the dimension precision is good, the grade is CT5 to CT6, when at the top of casting, the dimension precision is low, the grade is CT7 to CT8.The composites were observed by light microscope. The combination quality of matrix between composite layers is deteriorated when density of preform is increased. When SHS Ti-C-Fe system is applied to prepare composite, the combination quality can be improved with the increase percentage of Fe. When the percentage of Fe is 30%, the composite layer appears many shrinkage voids. When the percentage of Fe is 40%, the composite can be prepared successfully.The SHS products are observed by SEM. The results show that the particles of TiC in the inner of composites is samller and circler than the particles of TiC in the outside of composite. When SHS Ti-C-Fe system is applied to prepare composites, the particle dimension of TiC from the inner layer to outside layer in the composites, increased form 1μm to 3μm. When SHS Ti-C system is applied to prepare composites, form the inner to the outside of composites, the partical dimension of TiC increasedform 1μm to 10μm.The SHS products are observed by XRD, the results show that the percentage composition of Fe decreases, the percentage composition of Ti increase from the inner layer to outside layer in the composites. In the composite layer with SHS Ti-C-Fe system, the variation gradients of Fe and Ti are slower than the composite layer with SHS Ti-C system. When SHS Ti-C-Fe system is applied to prepare composites, the uniformity of composite is better than the composite with SHS Ti-C system .
