The Span 80 was synthesized from esterification of sorbitan and oleic acid.And the acrylated Span 80 was prepared from Span 80 and acrylic acid.The acrylated Span 80 has polymerizable reactivity.It is a good emulsifying agent.The one-step reaction system of sorbitan with oleic acid involving three kinds of catalyst, including acidic catalyst,alkali catalyst and metal oxide catalyst,has been studied.The factors that affect the reaction have been discussed,such as reaction temperature and reaction time.ZnO was found to be a good catalyst.The best technological condition wasω(ZnO)=0.5%,reaction temperature was 210℃and reaction time was 2.5h.Three kinds of dehydration catalyst and three kinds of esterfication catalyst have been discussed in the continuous two-step reaction system of synthesizing Span 80.The relationship between dehydration and esterfication as well as their effects on the quality of products were studied. The effect of catalyst and different preparation methods on the emulsifying property has been studie.The result showed the optimum reaction condition was that n(sorbitan):n(oleic acid)=1:1.4,in dehydration with 0.5%p-toluene sulfonic acid as catalyst,reaction time was 15min,reaction temperature was 120℃,in esterfication with 0.5%NaHCO3 as catalyst, reaction time was 2h,reaction temperature was 215℃.They distribute balance between the sorbitan monooleate and the sorbitan dioleate.The acrylated Span 80 was synthesized from esterification of Span 80 and acrylic acid. The better reaction condition is acquired by single factor analysis and orthogonal.Under the reaction condition that n(Span 80):n(acrylic acid)=1.1:1,6%p-toluene sulfonic acid as catalyst,0.8%p-dihydroxybenzene as polymerization inhibitor,toluene as solvent, V(toluene)=80mL/mol-acrylic acid,reaction time was 3h,reaction temperature was 118℃, the conversion of acrylated Span 80 was 99.5%,and the iodine value was 94.7gI2/100g simple. The acrylated Span 80 was also synthesized by acryloyl which was prepared from acrylic acid by reaction with thionyl chloride and then condensed with Span 80.The effect of reaction time, solvent,catalyst and molar ration were investigated.The results showed that the optimum conditions were:triethylamine as catalyst,n(acrylic acid):n(thionyl chloride):n(Span 80):n(triethylamine)=1:2.1:1:1.4,in synthesis of acrylic chloride reaction time was 1.5h, reaction temperature was 40℃,feeding order was adding dropwise acrylic acid to triethylamine,in acylation reaction time was 3h,reaction temperature was 50℃,toluene as solvent,V(toluene)=80mL/mol-acrylic acid,the iodine value of acrylated Span 80 was 94.9 7gI2/100g simple.This new reactive surfactant has polymerizable reactivity.Its application in emulsion is also discussed in this study.It has a better emulsifying property than Span 80.
