Casting process for a large steel part of housing sider for Angang 1780 cold rolling mill was studied in this paper. Numerical simulation was carried out by SolidWorks 3D model and HUAZHU CAE software. The feeding distance, solidification time were calculated and analyzed. And following conclusion were obtained:By introducing Solidworks software, which has the function to calculate the geometry properties such as the weight of parts, the 3D model of the rolling mill house sider was build up. And then the simulation of solidification was carried out by employing HuaZhu CAE software. The shrinkage of the casting part were predicted and the process parameters were optimized. The production results verified the simulation value, which provided a powerful tool to design casting process.
