In this paper, preparing the low-density calcium silicate insulation material byindustrial zirconium residue is researched and the one-step static hydrothermal synthesis asa method which contrapose the zirconium residue was proposed. The effects of differentmaterial and proportion in preparation of the calcium silicate insulation material arestudied by means of XRD and SEM. The features of xonotlite and tobermorite which wereproduced in different conditions are observe and the performance of the products areinspected. The experiments show that the zirconium residue contains a lot of silica and chloride. The high-reactivity silica is congregated of submicron-size amorphous ultramicro particlesand isn't dispersed easily. In acidic or alkaline condition, the zirconium residue wouldbecome gelatinold. The method of washing after crushing zirconium residue can removethe chloride effectively, improve washing efficiency and decrease the loss of micro-sizesilica.It can be seen from performance and features of the productions that when the C/S is1 and 0.83, the zirconium residue as silica raw material can prepare the fibrous xonotliteand flake tobermorite. The impurities in the zirconium residue have no effect on thepreparation of calcium silicate insulation material. When prepared by dynamichydrothermal synthesis, the diameter of hollow secondary particles is about 10μm andcannot be increased by adding strontium nitrate. The density of the products is higher andthe density of xonotlite and tobermorite is 252 kg/m~3 and 238kg/m~3. When prepared byone-step static hydrothermal synthesis, as the result of the gelation behavior of zirconiumresidue, the reaction materials are unlikely to settle down. The crystal of production growswell and the porosity is high, the density of the products is lower and the density ofxonotlite and tobermorite is 159 kg/m~3 and 211kg/m~3. In this paper, the line contractionrate, density and thermal conductivity of calcium silicate insulation material whichproduced by zirconium residue in one-step static hydrothermal synthesis all achieve thenational standards.
