The preparation and the microwave absorption properties of SiC/Fe3O4 compositenanopowders were mainly studied in this paper. Firstly, the theory that explains thenew absorption properties of nanometer materials was explored preliminarly.Secondly, the computer-aided optimized design of the microwave absorbingmaterials was discussed, and the impedance matching of the single-layer interferencenanometer microwave absorbing coating was calculated. Finally, the electromagneticparameters of SiC and Fe3O4 nanopowder were measured, and the microwaveabsorption properties of SiC/Fe3O4 composite nanopowders were simulated bycomputer. According to the optimized results, three absorbing coating specimenswere prepared, using SiC nanopowder, Fe3O4 nanopowder, and SiC/Fe3O4 compositenanopowders as absorber, respectively, then the microwave absorption properties ofthese specimens were measured in anechoic chamber. The results show that theSiC/Fe3O4 composite has a good microwave absorbing effectiveness in the frequencyranges of 8~18 GHz. When the weight ration of SiC powder in the composite is 0.4,the reflection loss peak reaches -23.1 dB at about 14.1 GHz when the thickness is 2mm, while the frequency bandwidth less than -10 dB was almost 5.5 GHz which wasjust in Ku-band (8~18 GHz). So it can be applied as a broad-band, thin and lightmicrowave absorber in Ku-band. The absorption properties of three specimens to themicrowave with the wavelength of 8 mm were also measured, and the Fe3O4nanopowder showed the best absorption effectiveness, with a reflection loss of-7.988 dB. Therefore, the most significant result of this paper is to provide abroad-band, thin and light microwave absorber in Ku-band, which can be helpful forthe studying of new type of RAM in theory and experiment.
