The current research approached the synthetic route of flame retardant N,N'-ethylenebis (tetrabromophthalimide), optimized its technical conditions and designed a method to mensurate its bromine content.In this research, the synthetic technical conditions of intermediate N,N'-ethylenediamine bis(phthalic acid imide) and target product N,N'-ethylenebis (tetrabromophthalimide) were explored. All the synthesized compounds were given structural representations and purity analysis with the aid of IR, NMR, M.P, HPLC, DSC and TGA. Moreover, through the orthogonal experiment and data processing, the influences exerted by such factors as the reaction time, temperature, catalyzer and etc. were discussed and a fine process conditions were confirmed, and finally a new synthetic technique was established without any organic solvent and auxiliary, but with high purity. In the processing, proper catalyzer was selected for improving the reaction efficiency. The bromine content of synthesized product was close to the theoretical value, and its surface color was white, solving the long-term problem that the surface color has always been yellow. Besides, oxygen flask combustion was adopted to analyze the bromine content of the product.
