The cermets have its advantages of higher red-hardness, low friction coefficient, good wear resistance and excellent corrosion resistance etc., compared with the traditional WC-Co based hard metal. However, its flexural strength and toughness are not satisfactory. The experiences show that SiC whisker toughing mechanism can not only do the good deed but also being fit for the room temperature and the high temperature. The production technology has been succeeded in SiC whisker toughing Si3N4 and Al2O3 cermets composite tools, but the literatures about SiC whisker toughing cermets cutting tools is reported fewer at home and abroad. The new-style SiC whisker toughing Ti(C,N)-based cermets cutting tools are been fabricated in this test. With Ti(C,N) being the main phase, used SiC whisker as toughing material, made use of metal felt phase and carbide phase as additive, the new-style SiC whisker toughing Ti(C,N)-based cermets cutting were been fabricated through the vacuum sintering technique (trademark TN30W) aider mixed and pressed. There are the experimental research and academic analysis on the component, fabricating technique and microstructure of the TN30W cutting tools; The comparative study with the internal TN30 cermets cutting tools is given; At the same time, their variations of the density and mechanical properties(i.e: flexural strength, fracture toughness, and) were studied with SiCw different component and at different temperatures from 1430℃to 1490℃, and the the SiCw toughening mechanisms are discussed. The results show that the TN30W cutting tools have some fine properties of higher hardness and better strength and toughness etc.; the optimal comprehensive mechanical properties of the TN30W cutting tools can be obtained with the weight of SiCw 15% and the sintering temperayure at 1470℃, especially, their flexural strength and fracture toughness are improved markedly.
