Decanters Fast Red Mud Separation Technology Applied Research

The topic comes from the project(ZZ2004CAAA01) of Chalco,which was that centrifugal separation was industrially applied to red mudin high concentration sodium aluminate solution. The application ofhorizontal decanter screw centrifuge to red mud separation is discussed inthis paper by industrialize examination. Based on theoretical analysis, adecanter centrifuge(LW530×2270) was used in the early examination,then decanter centrifuges(LW900×3600) were applied to industrialproduce.The performances were compared between natural sedimentationequipment and compelling sedimentation equipment, based on thecharacteristic of digesting materiel in sintering process. Then a smallerdecanter centrifuge(LW530×2270) was selected to experiment. And itwas the result that all industrial indexes were optimized, the primaryindustrial index, the digesting percentage, was advanced a deadline by2～3 percent, the capacity was 25～30 m~3/h and scale formationinfluenced faintly the balance of the decanter centrifuge rotor, when thedecanter centrifuge was applied to red mud separation produce.The approximate capacity formula of decanter centrifuge was putforward, based on the structure analysis of decanter centrifuge. Then thestructure parameter of industrial decanter centrifuges were given, with using of the LW530×2270 decanter centrifuge. And the effect wassynthetically assessed on sintering process. It was the result that thecapacity of a LW900×3600 decanter centrifuge is above 55 m~3/h and thedecanter centrifuge run smoothly. So it is feasible that decantercentrifuges are applied to red mud separation in alumina produce.It is creative that horizontal decanter screw centrifuge is applied tored mud separation in alumina produce in the project, which has a bigdiameter and high long-diameter ratio. And it is guiding-significative tochoice of red mud separation technics and broaden applications ofhorizontal decanter screw centrifuge.
