HA161-4-3-1 complex brass alloy is applied mainly as synchronizer rings of automobiles. The execellent wearing resistance of this alloy is usually realized by Mo-coating, which is of complex process and high cost. To reduce producing cost and shorten the manufacturing procedures, systematric engneering research was conducted in the present paper. By optimizing the alloy, M-MES casting, hot extruding, HA161-4-3-1 alloy samples were prepared in the producing conditions. MHK-500 abrasion testing, OM, SEM, Energy Spectrum analysis were carried out for the investigation. The main results were obtained as follows:The A1 content may change the volume percentage of a andβphases in HA161-4-3-1 alloy, enhance its hardness, but excessive Al may bring harmfulγphase. By adding Ni and Co spherical particles may form and homo-distribute.Exciting current of 80-100A was carried on for the M-EMS casting, which greatly refined the casting structures of HA161-4-3-1 alloy as the electromagnetism stirs creates the phenomenon of multiplying crystal grains. The structure and performance of the HA161-4-3-1 alloy ingot were improved by homogenization treatment at 800℃for 4h.The wearing mechanism of HA161-4-3-1 alloy was mainly exhausted level attrition, and included abrasive wearing, adhesive wearing and fatigue wearing. By adjusting the Al contain, controlling the distribution, the form and the dimension of the second phases, the micro-structures controlling for this alloy can be accomplished.The composition-optimized HA161-4-3-1 alloy which was fabricated with optimized processing had execellent mechanical properties, obviously improved the abrasion resistance of the synchronizer rings for Shanghai automobile. It can replace the imported products and promote the nationalization of automobile pieces.
