Silicon-manganese slag is a in the ferroalloy plant while the pig iron and manganese steel are being smelted. Silicon-manganese slag is rich in manganese. It is always aqua and its structure is unconsolidated. With the development of ferroalloy industry in China, the discharge capacity of silicon-manganese slag increases day by day. For this, the Ecological Environment and continuous developing economy are threaded. Therefore, the government pays more attention to the utilization of Silicon-manganese slag. But there are also some problems because the physical and chemical properties of silicon-manganese slag from different plants are different.Perm Permeable brick is a new green environmental-protection building- material. Its water-retention and water-Permeability are perfect. It can solve the hungriness problem of cities and help to keep water-balance. Making permeable bricks by using silicon-manganese slag is a new path of its application, which makes good environmental protection effect.For these reasons, the silicon-manganese slag samples from ferroalloy plants in Guizhou Province were studied on their physical and chemical properties by using the methods of SEM/EDS,XRD and ICP—AES. Based on the conclusions, the research on preparation of Permeable bricks Containing Silicon-manganese slag was carried out. And the effect of technical conditions on the physical properties of it has been discussed. The main results are showed as follows:Silicon-manganese slag is composed by some irregular-form, multihole. amorphous particulates. The size of the particulates is mostly above 250μm, and the major Chemical constituents are SiO2 and CaO while the secondly are Al22O3 and MnO . The trace elements in it do not exceed the standard of discharge, and the radio assay result can meet the requirements of test standard of GB6566-2001 entirely. So we can use it to produce building materials which can be used inside or outside. Silicon-manganese slag can create some new crystal-phase minerals by high temperature calcinations and cooling. Thinking about the comprehensive utilization ways of Silicon-manganese slag, we can take preparation of permeable materials into account from its multihole structured and we can change the color of the products by controlling the temperature and ambiance of calcinations.Using silicon-manganese slag as main raw materials, permeable brick can be prepared successfully. Its compressive strength, permeability coefficient water-containing Capacity, and frost resistance can meet the requirements of test standard of JC/T945-2005 entirely.The compressive strength and permeability coefficient of the permeable bricks is a pair of contradiction, and the affect factors of it include shaping pressure, sintering temperature, aggregate size and so on. In the experiment, its compression strength gets higher and osmotic coefficient gets lower just as shaping pressure, sintering temperature increase while aggregate size decreases.
