The effect of impurities in DMDAAC monomer solution, such as NaCl, allyl chloride, allyl alcohol, allyl aldehyde, active carbon, low molecular polymer of DMDAAC, yellow residua, Fe3+, Fe2+, Cu2+, on the polymerization reactivity of preparing PDA with 30ï¼…cationicty was researched in this paper. By consulting the literatures, the sorts and the range of the impurities in DMDAAC monomer solution were supplemented. The method used to refine the DMDAAC monomer solution was improved and the high purity DMDAAC monomer solution which just had no more than 12.1 mg/kg impurity of NaCl was prepared. Using this DMDAAC monomer solution as a raw material, the intrinsic viscosity of resultant PDA as testing index, the effect of impurity in synthesizing PDA with 30ï¼…cationicty was investigated.The results of the effect of solo-impurity showed that the polymerization of preparing PDA could not happen when the content of Fe3+, Fe2+ and Cu2+ were more than 7mg/kg, 9mg/kg and 5 mg/kg respectively in monomer. The polymerization of preparing PDA could be impacted by allyl chloride, allyl alcohol and allyl aldehyde. The content of allyl chloride, allyl alcohol and allyl aldehyde in the DMDAAC monomer solution varied from 0mg/kg to 1000mg/kg, their intrinsic viscosity of PDA descended from 10.3dL/g to 8.0dL/g, 6.8dL/g and 8.8dL/g respectively. The polymerization of preparing PDA could be carried out well in the case the content of NaCl, active carbon, yellow residua and low molecular polymer of DMDAAC were less than 10000mg/kg, 1000mg/kg, 1000mg/kg and 50000mg/kg respectively.The results of the effect of multi-impurities showed that the refinement of industrial DMDAAC monomer solution was necessary.So the impurities in DMDAAC monomer solution should be treaded with different methods.
