Micro electronic discharge manufacturing (Micro-EDM) is one of the most important parts in EDM. With the expanding of precise mechanic, MEMS, and optical fields, more and more attentions are paid to micro-EDM. The researches of Micro-EDM become more and more active for its tiny manufacturing stress and easy to realize on common EDM machine.Based on the theory of Micro-EDM, the physical laws and rules during Micro-EDM discharging process were discussed. With which as the theory base, the discharge auto detecting system made of sensors, data acquisition card, virtual instrument software and computer was established. And data acquiring & analyzing software was compiled. The data acquiring, showing and processing of voltage and current was realized during discharging process. It is shown through comparison experiments that such auto detecting system can take the place of oscillograph completely, while with big feasibility.Experiment platform made of common EDM machine was established, and online measuring system as constructed. Based on which the state-of-art methods used to make micro rods were analyzed theoretically by means of finite analysis and compared through experiments. And their advantages and disadvantages were discussed. The result showed that: by such means, micro rode with 0.0015mm in diameter and 1mm in length was made successfully, and the smallest rode made was 0.008 mm in diameter with length and diameter ratio 9:1.Simulation of the micro hole making process was carried out, and it was shown that taper hole was formed during micro hole making process, while it could be diminished through multi-grinding. And the effects of discharge parameters as discharge voltage, discharge current and pulse width on micro hole making was studied. And at the same time, evaluations on discharge parameters from discharging conditions' view were carried out. Discharge parameters were optimized at last, and micro hole of Φ0.018mm in diameter and 0.005 in discharge gap was made by using such discharge parameters.
