Dimer is a new generation surfactant, which is a break-through to traditional surfactants. Dimeric surfactants are made up of two conventional surfactant moieties connected at the level of the head groups or very close to the head groups by a spacer group, which inhibits the separation of the head groups, strengthen the interaction among hydrophobic chains, and improve the surface activity greatly. We have mainly investigated the synthesis and characterization of the environment friendly dimers—dimethylene-1,2-(bisquaternary ammonium bromine group connected)bis(carboxylic ester(salt)) (BQABA (S)), and surveyed the surface activity, match with other surfactants, and other applications. We have also synthesized and charactered a sugar surfactant dimer--para-dioxylbenzene-bis(α-dodecacyl-N-methyl-gluc-amide). The main progress are summarized as follows:Synthesize the dimerB--dimethylene-1,2-(bisquaternary ammonium bromine group connected)bis(carboxylic ester), C—dimethyl-ene-1,2-(bis quaternary ammonium bromine group connected) bis(carboxylic salt), and a para-dioxylbenzene connected nonionic surfactant, and analysize the structures of these three surfactants through IR. Make the quadrature and horizontal analysis on the B2 reaction condition. The optimal condition is that nA:ntetramethyl-ethylene diamine=2.2:1 react 8h in 40% isopropanol solution, NH4Cl as catalyst at 84℃.The cmc values of dimethylene-1,2-(bisquaternary ammonium bromine group connected) bis(carboxylic ester(salt)) (BQABA(S)) are one or two orders of magnitude lower than those for the corresponding conventional surfactants. The lowest achieves 10-4 magnitude. There is no synergy in the B2/SDS but distinct synergy in the B2/SDS mixed solution which cmc could be 0.05mM at the molar ratio of...
