Calixarenes, as a kind of excellent representatives of supramolecular receptors, have been developed rapidly in the case of synthesis and application during the last decades. So far they have been synthesized with various substituted groups and cavity-size of 4-20 phenol units. Calixarenes have been utilized in fields of complexation, catalysis, extraction, ionophore and so on. Recently, their applications in the field of chromatography are becoming increasingly attracted attention, In this dissertation, synthesis and characterization of calixarenes and calixarene-bonded silica gel stationary phase were studied systematically. The main contents are as follow:1. Calixarenes and their derivatives were synthesized. Their structures were characterized by infared spectroscopy, thermal analysis and mass spectrometry. Their purities were detected by HPLC with more than 90%.2. Six calixarene-bonded silica gel stationary phases (CBS4, CBS6, CBS8, DBS4, DBS6 and DBS8) and p-tert-butylphenylether-bonded silica gel stationary phase (PBS) were prepared by γ-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (KH-560) as coupling agent. These stationary phases were characterized by infared spectroscopy, elemental analysis and thermal analysis.3. The chromatographic behaviors of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), positional isomers of substituted aromatic hydrocarbons, and (E)- and (Z)-ethyl 3-(4-acetylphenyl) acrylate on the six calixarene-bonded silica gel stationary phases was described. These results were compared with the elution patterns on PBS and ODS (Waters Xterra RP-18) columns. The possible separation mechanism also has been investigated.
