A batch and a continuous reactors are designed to study the hydrolysis of methyl formate to formic acid. The autocatalytic Process has been studied on different conditions which may affect the guided, equilibrium time and conversions of methyl formate, particularly the reaction temperatures, pressures, the ratios of water to methyl fomate and the additional amounts of methanol and formic acid. A optimum condition is obtained in the continuous reactor. The continuous reactor can be regarded as an ideal flowed tabe reactor, we have elu(?)idated and verified the autocatalytic hydrolysis mechanism ofmethyl formate. The kinetics of the catalytic hydro(?)ysis of emthyl formate in a rea(?)th(?) material.which its initial water to ester ratio is 2:1has been well established.
