The supply shortage of world energy and more and more serious enviroment problem are concerned with use of fossil fuel at present. Air pollution is more serious countries in the world. The pollutants CO and hydrocarbons come mainly from burning of fossil fuels and exhaust of motor vehicles. Burning of fossil fuel produces CO2, which give rise to greenhouse effect, and CO, NOx and hydrocarbons, which jeopardize people's health. So, energy security and enviroment protection have been important problems in the global.The way to solve the energy and enviromental problems completely is to use reproducible resources, such as solar energy, water energy, wind energy, biology energy and hydrogen energy. The electricity transformed from solar energy can be used to electrolyse water to produce hydrogen or the high temprature from solar energy to decompose water. Both methods are the cleanest technology for the production of hydrogen, which may also replace the burning of fossil fuel for electricity supply. Hydrogen can also be indirectly produced from organism and fossil fuel. That is to utilize biological energy existed extensively in the nature to produce hydrogen. Sugarcane, haulm and others can be used as raw material to produce alcohols such as methanol and ethanol et al. Methanol is also by-product of a series of biological and chemical process. The hydrogen from biological process is that not only the content low but also the scale small, and it is difficult to satisfy the large-scale demand of commercial use. Steam reformation of hydrocarbon is a mature technology, which has been used to produce hydrogen in a large scale in industry. The raw material of reformation could be petroleum, coal oil, natural gas, and so on. Although steam reformation of methane is the most universal and economical way to produce hydrogen at present, methanol is more probably suitable than natural gas for automobile use of fuel cell. The reasons are: first, the reformation temperature of methanol (230℃) is less than that of methane (260℃); second, methanol could be stored easily and has much high enery density.Fuel cell is one of the most prespective techonologies to solve the problems of...
