1 In the present paper, we had studied many documentations and literatures, and selected polymers which would have the superior third-order Nonlinear Optical (NLO) propertis to study by Solid-State Polymerization. Polymers can be obtained by 1, 4-addtion in the solid state which is topochemically controlled wherein the packing arrangements of the molecules in the monomer crystal lattice that must satisfy the requirements for solid-state polymerization shown in Scheme 1.Scheme1 Topochemical Solid-state Polymerization of diacetylene by 1, 4-addtion, when distance (d) and angle (f ) are about 0.5nm and 45°, respectively. We have been focused on enhancement of third-order NLO properties of polymers by increasing effective conjugation length, and we also were interested in pyridyl groups because of their salt or metal-complex formation. So 1,12-bispydridyl-1, 3, 5, 7, 9,11-dodecahexaynes were designed,in which the monomer alignment in the crystals may be adjusted for the solid-state polymerization shown in Scheme2.
