In order to raise the utilization ratio of H2S, reduce the emission of SO2 and protect environment, Sinopec Changling Company put 60 millions RMB to import a WSA plant from Denmark. Since the plant was put into operation, some problems occurred during the period of operating, including the leakage of salt, heavy corrosion of equipment, abnormal color and strong corrosion of sulphuric acid, etc. In addition, the running time and emission of SO2, SO3 and NOx could not be up to the design standard as well. This article analyzed the above-mentioned problems comprehensively, especially in figuring out the source of NOx in feed gas and sulphuric acid. Persons involved in this article carried out the testing and analyzing widely covering the leakage of salt, characters of feed gas, combustion of feed gas, combustion burner, process control, NOx content in feed gas and sulphuric acid and monitoring of chlorine. In consequence, the reasons of the problems were find out, and the effective measure had been adopted in overcoming the problems. From the time being, the acid quality index is much higher than the standard of 98% acid, SO2 emission drop to 94mg/ Nm3 that is also much lower than national standard of 960 mg/ Nm3. The aim of research has been achieved, in addition, the considerable economy benefit and environmental benefit have been made as well. Generally, the WSA plant will be brought into play in both sulphuric acid process and environment protection.
