As the theoretical fundamental of the high-speed cutting(HSC), the research of the mechanism of HSC is the foundation of the application and development of the HSC technology. In the research of the mechanism of the HSC, the cutting temperature is very important, the distribution and the change rule of the cutting temperature is one of the main basis of the process analysis in HSC. This research has important theoretical and practical significance Funded by the Foundation for the Author of National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation of P.R. China(200231) and the Scientific Research Foundation for the Outstanding Young Scientist of Shandong Province(02BS074). Then, beginning with the metal cutting principle, the research objective and technical route of the finite element simulation in HSC are presented, and the finite element model is constructed. Furthermore, this model is used to investigate the generation and distribution of the temperature field in HSC.Based on the HSC principle, a finite element model of metal cutting is constructed. Then, several special finite element techniques are deeply investigated, such as the meshing, the chip formation, the chip separation criteria and so on. The thesis carried out some finite element simulations by varying geometric parameters of the cutting tool and cutting parameters, through which the thesis researched the distribution situation of the temperature field in HSC.Based on the mechanism of the formation of serrated chip in HSC, it is simulated by means of finite element method, using an appropriate fracture criterion. By comparing with the continuous chip in low speed cutting, the thesis has analyzed the influence of varying cutting speeds on the chip formation and distribution of temperature field.By using semi-artificial thermocouple method with nipping metal thread in workpiece, the changing rules of cutting temperature with cutting parameters in HSC are experimentally investigated. Finally, systematical summary is given, and future work is put forward.
