The polymer microspheres find an extensive application due to their good properties of specific surface area, adsorptive, coagulation and the ability of surface reaction. With the improving and developing of the polymer science, the people have attached importance to the study of synthesizing and application of polymer microspheres. Especially the way of dispersion polymerzation, which was found by the Britain investigator of company ICI in 1970s, pushed the research of monodispersed and functional polymer microspheres forward. In this paper the methods of synthesizing and application of polymer microspheres and the dispersion polymerization and its influence factors and mechanism and kinetically characters were described. Dispersion polymerization of styrene using corn starch as stabilizer, azobisisobutyronitrile as initiator, divinylbenzene as crosslink agent was carried out. The effect of corn starch concentration, initial monomer concentration, initiator concentration, crosslink agent concentration and reaction temperature on the size and size distribution of polymer particles were investigated through condition experiments. An ideal recipe was found out from which polymer particles of 121 nm in diameter and 0.038 in diameter distribution were accessible, and used it as a catalyze carries adsorb concentrated sulfuric acid of the reaction of acetic acid and ethyl acetate. Then we found the yield rate of ethyl acetate reach 65% if the catalyzer was kept dogged into the solution for more than 6 hours. The catalyzer was used for four times and the yield rate just dropped a little bit. Then the seed particles of polystyrene produced by dispersion polymerization were further swollen to about four times in diameter by means of dispersion seeds polymerization. And the effects of swelling agent amount, swelling temperature and swelling time on the size and size distribution of polymer particles were investigated. We found that the more swell ant used, the bigger the particle diameter was. and the wider the size distribution was. The temperature of swelling should...
