The experimental teaching of Mechanics of Materials plays an important role in the teaching. Developing experimental simulation software of Mechanics of Materials can mitigate the current mess by distance education. Students can also use the software for preparation and review.This paper discusses how to develop experimental simulation software of Mechanics of Materials through Visual C++ and object-oriented programming, which was developed under the environment of Windows 9X/NT/2000. It also tells us how to simulate experiments through OpenGL, ActiveX controls and database.According to the feature of each kind of experiments of Mechanics of Materials, two simulation methods were adopted: One is to use the database got in real experiments to simulate them. The other is to use mathematical models to simulate them, which is based on the control theory. Through the two different methods, this paper discusses how to develop the experimental simulation software: tensile test, compressive test, strain measurement of Young modulus and Poisson ratio. This paper also discusses mechanics behavior and constitutive relation of plastic deformation of materials. Finally, this paper develops "the Web Lab of Mechanics of Materials" for distance education.This paper finds a better way to develop experimental simulation software based on Web. The scheme is very useful and flexible in development. It leaves a large space for the evolution of other experimental simulation software and the fulfillment of distance education.
