In this paper, removal of acetylene in methane gas , which is used as a stabilizing agent, by catalytic hydrogenation is studied.1. Dynamics experiment has been carried out with the by-pass device in the ethylene industrial plant. Exponential type appearance dynamics formula of hydrogenation of acetylene on non-selective hydrogenation catalyst HC-9612 is obtained by the experiment data of non-ideal absorption process. And it has been obtained that the order of acetylene to the hydrogenation reaction is approximately 0.66 and the appearance activation energy of the hydrogenation reaction is approximately 30.92 kJ/mol.The appearance dynamics formula is- RA=rA= 4.003×104exp ( - 30.92 × 103/RT) CA0.662. Based on the result of dynamics experiment, acetylene removal reactor has been desiged according to one-dimension suppositional homo-geneous phase and ideal fluid model and has been put into industrial operation. The test indicates that, removing acetylene in stabilizing methane by non-selective hydrogenation catalyst HC-9612, under the condition of 150~ 237ppm(wt) of acetylene content in methane, 0.4MPaG of reaction pressure, 30 ℃ of reaction temperature, 991 h-1 of space velocity and 1176 of catalyst-bed Reynolds, a satisfactory result is acquired that acetylene content in methane can be decreased under 1.2ppm(wt).
