Abstract/Summary:
At present simulation training system is widely used in chemical plant, but is short of in biochemical process. Penicillin fermentation is one of the most typical biochemical reaction process. Taking penicillin as an object of study which has a complex reaction process and a long reaction cycle, establishes a simulation training system is a very useful work for pharmaceutical industry and higher education of engineering.Above all, a detailed analysis and elaborating of fermentation modes and characteristics is made in this paper, and simply introduce various models of penicillin production.Production of penicillin, and many other secondary metabolites, follows a typical pattern in batch process: a rapid growth phase followed by a second phase of product formation. Roundly considering the speciality of the fermentation process and the changes of various parameters, the mathematical dynamic model is formulated to describe trends in biomass and penicillin formation as well as substrate and oxygen consumption for fed-batch cultivation. The general physic-chemical conditions of the fermentation, such as temperature, pH, flow rate of air, rotational speed of mixer, are taken into account, the model is therefore dependent on these variables.The model is run under different operating conditions. The results of simulation have been shown to exhibit most of the features of penicillin fermentation as reported in the literature, and reflect the general characteristics observed in the penicillin fermentation process.The system is programmed in Visual Basic 6.0. It includes two main menus: the flow chart menu which simulates real operating environment,and diagram of curves menu which reflects the trends of the variables during the fermentation. These two menus can switch to each other at any moment. During the operation any random disturbance and adjustment can be made, and the system is provided with the alarm bell.In conclusion, the whole simulation training system achieves the quality of real time, reality and operability.
