A novel metal and alloy powder production technology is developed in which high velocity jet gas stream rich in solid salt particles is used to disintegrate molten metal and alloy stream into droplets to obtain powder. The technology is briefly termed as solid atomization technology. Break-up mechanisms and heat transmission of solid atomization is different from gas atomization.This thesis is principally intended to investage the theory and processing law of solid atomization. The results of this investigation are as follows.First ,the theory of solid atomization has been studied systematically. The result shows that in contrast to conventional gas atomization technology by high velocity jet stream of gas, the finer powder with narrower particle size distribution can be obtained by the newly developed technology under the same processing parameters condition ,the cooling rate of the powder is higher , which reached 104~105K/s ,and the theoretical efficiency is increased.Second ,the influence of solid particle/gas mass percentage ,mass flow rate of molten metal and species of solid atomization medium on the solid atomization as well as powder characteristics have been studied systemically. The investigation has shown that the higher the mass fluid rate of solid medium, the finer the atomized powders can been produced, but after the mass fluid rate of solid medium reached a certain value, the higher the mass fluid rate of solid medium, the crassitude the atomized powders can been produced; the higher the mass flow rate of molten metal, the thicker the density of solid medium, the finer the atomized powders can been produced.Finally, solid medium whose component is the same as powder has been choosed to produce the alloy powders, the collection efficiency of fine powder is higher compared to conventional gas atomization technology, furthermore, the solid mediumisn't necessary to be separated. Solid atomization technology not only produce, the finer powder with narrower particle size distribution, but also economize the raw material, it's a practical and economical novel technology.
