Study Of Classical Style Furniture In The United States

Because the original United States of America is come from American colonies, so, although the history of America is only about two hundreds years, the progressing of its classical furniture is very complex. Basing on the process of the United States' history, this thesis tried to settle and constitute a much more integral and detailed knowledge system about the America classical furniture history through the method of taking things as a whole and combining cases study.This thesis discussed not only the progress of America classical furniture in such periods and styles as the period of early colonial, William and Mary style, Queen Anne Style, Chippendale Style, Federal Style, The period of Victorian, and Arts and Crafts etc., but also the characters of each styles and periods Since the style of design had stepped in modem phase at the end of 19 century, so that things after the end of 19 century isn't the focus of discussion in this thesis.This thesis tried to establish a new understand toward the relationship between styles of America classical furniture and the society which belonged. When discussed styles, the progress of materials and craftworks will also be taken into account.The thesis is going to be a good reference for America classical furniture designers in design practices. It can also help us understand the society and the culture of America more accurately and promote the communication and blend of different cultures.
