Based on detailed investigation of a great deal of related literature, the different coordination modes of carboxylato group, the synthesis methods and property studies of a large variety of carboxylates and the recent progress were reviewed in the field. It's proposed that it must be significant to introduce the functional groups, such as carbazole, into complexes to explore the solid fluorescence and the electrochemistry properties of the complexes. The main achievements in the work are summarized as follows:1. 4-Carbazol-9-ylbenzaldehyde was synthesized by improving the synthetic method from three aspects in order to improve the product yield from 52% to 75% and an effective method for consequent synthesis were proposed.2. A series of N-carbazole acid derivatives and its Ag, Ru complexes were successfully synthesized. The five compounds have been obtained and determined by the single-crystal X-ray diffraction method and the structures were described.3. The electronic spectra of the compounds mentioned above in solid and in solution arecompared and explained.4. The fluorescent spectra and solvent effects of the compounds have been studied. The fluorescent yield and Stokes shift are also calculated.5. The electrochemical properties of the complexes were studied. From the cyclic voltammetry determination, The electrochemical behavior of the ligands and its six complexes were studied based on using electronic method, and their behavior of them was greatly affected by the corresponding ligands.
