Organobentonite is a kind of hydrophobic bentonite which prepared by exchanging inorganic cations in the layer of bentonite with organic cations or compounds .It combines inorganic bentonite's excellent dilatability, adsorption and dispersion with huge hydrophobic area, so it has very good affinity for organic substance, has been widely used in all kinds of organic system.At present, sodium bentonite was used as main raw material, and cationic surfactants such as long carbon chain quaternary ammonium salt and alkylamine were used as modifying agents when synthesize organobentonites. However, the reserves of calcium bentonite is low and the surfactants are expensive, which bring many difficulties to industrialization.In this paper, an abundant and low cost raw material, calcium bentonite, and several new modifying agents such as compound quaternary ammonium salt with cheap caprolactam or anionic surfactant or silane coupling agent were used to synthesize new-type organobentonites, in the principal of efficient, cheap and simple.In the experiment, the effect of intercalation was tested by X-ray diffraction, infrared spectrum, different temperature analysis and temperature gravity analysis. The best preparation condition and proportion of compound modifying agents were given through repeat adjustment and experiments after analysed several influence factors.By applied the organobentonites in the treatment of dying wastewater, the decoloring performance of new organobentonites was studied and analysed, the relationship between the layer space, characteristic of diffraction peaks and the decoloring performance was discussed. It indicated that the color removal of new organobentintes are much higher than that of inorgnganic bentonite, the color removal of the organobentonite prapared by a certain proportion of quaternary ammonium salt and caprolactam is the best, 96.06%, it is 11.86% higher than that of actived carbon.Moreover, we prepared epoxy/bentonite nanocomposites using conventional organbentonite and quaternary ammonium salt/caprolactam modified organobentonite as harbinger respectively. Their mechanical performance were tested. The bend strength and modulus of conventional epoxy/bentonite nanocomposite are 73% and 52.4% higher than those of pure epoxy, while the bend strength and modulus of new epoxy/bentonite nanocomposite are 95.6% and 64.2% higher than those of pure epoxy.According to direct and indirect testing results of organobentonite's structure and performance, the project that synthesize new organobentonite with calcium bentonite by replacing a part of conventional modifying agent for caprolactam has been proved reasonable and feasible, the affinity of organobentonie for organic substance was improved, it can be used in variable organic system.
