With the development of the technology, the contradiction between development and environment becomes severity. If we want to make our society to develop continually, the environmental protection work must be paid more attention, so people make more concern of the problem. The shortage of water, the pollution of water, the deterioration of water environment ecosystem have become restrict factors for development.Brewery wastewater, as a part of the water pollution, its treatment has been paid more attention. As our country has entered into WTO, the requirements for the stands of contamination become more and more strictly. And now, there is some faultiness with the treatment of the brewery wastewater. Therefore, if is urgently to find out a kind of economy and effective way to resolve the brewery wastewater treatment problem.In this paper, we first make a detail analyzing and discussion of the source, the character, the amount of the brewery water, as well as the existing ways for treating the brewery wastewater. On this condition, we decide to treat the wastewater by the Anaerobic Baffled Reactor (ABR), as the wastewater having a strong strength and easily catabolism by the microbe.Taking experiment as a basic method, we have star-up the anaerobic system, then we increasing the loading rate, and check the tolerance ability of the system to the shock loading. This entire lasted for 6 months, and we attained the predict purpose, and got some experiment results. Based on the results, a detail discussing of the main engineering parameters, such as Volume Loading Rate (VLR), Hydraulic Residence Time (HRT), and the strength of contamination in the influent, of ABR for treating brewery wastewater had been made. The experiment shows, when the temperature is 22 ,the shortest HRT is 8 hours, the VLR is 10.37kgCODC /(m3-d), the CODC removal is 85.4%. And this shows it is a effective and useful way to treat the brewery wastewater by ABR. For the experiment of hydraulic and organic shock, the founding show ABR has a good resistance capability to the shock. Then, analyzing the role andcharacteristics of ABR for treating brewery wastewater, we got the rule . between the environment influence factor, such as pH, Volatility Fatty Acids (VFAs), alkalinity and NH3-N, which can be referred in practical use for ABR. Then observing the anaerobic granule sludge, we founded microbial communities in each compartment is various. The whole experiment shows that there is phase separating in ABR, the acid process and the methane process has separated.Finally, we make an economy comparison of three different typical ways for treating brewery wastewater; analyze the economic superiority for ABR-aerobic. Based on the engineering parameter got in the experiment, a practice design had been given. Finally, taking the brewery wastewater treatment as an example, we make a comparison between ABR and Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Bed (UASB), which is well established technologist for treating brewery wastewater by anaerobic way. The comparison shows the economic advantage ofABR.
