The running gate system plays duple roles in injection mold; it spreads polymer and transmits heat during injecting progress. Whether its design is reasonable or not directly affects plastic quality and injection mold' s efficiency. It not only affects precision of geometrical shape, physical and mechanical performance, inherent and apparent quality, and also affects pouring conditions, degrees of filling mold, degrees of separating from product, and so on a series of problems. Altogether the design of running gate system is an initial task in the design progress of injection mold, and is also a key factor to acquire high-quality plastic product.In the latest decade, our country has just set out the research on the CAD/ CAE integrated system of injection mold, and the related technologies are expected to lucubrate. Nowadays many of advanced overseas CAD and CAE software of injection mold are imported by domestic enterprises, but most of them don' t match the productive conditions of our country ( such as the criterion of material properties, the standard mold, etc.), and the software' s ability of secondary develop is not very good. All above mentioned disadvantages make these software can not do their levels best. On the other hand, it is unacceptable for designer to develop the whole CAD/ CAE integrated system of injection mold by himself, because abundant manpower and lots of material resources will be needed, development period will be long, developed functions may be weak and software system may be unstable; Moreover, developing process also contains some uncertain difficulties. According to the above considerations,the author introduces the method of integration to build the CAD/CAE integrated system of injection mold' s running gate system.The current PC system has a high level of ability of operating speed, capacity and graphical processing. Therefore, the perfect integrated system generally uses PC system as hardware platform. Considerating the selection of sub-systems, the CAD/ CAE integrated system requests advanced functions of geometrical molding and CAE analyzing, the author adopts the UGII system(a common mechanical CAD/CAM software of EDS company, US, generally used by domestic enterprises )and the Moldflow system(a famous CAE analysis software of Moldflow company, Australia) as the sub-systems. On the hardware platform of PC system, the author sets up the CAD/ CAE integrated system of injection mold' s running gate system by gathering the UGII software and Moldflow software.The way of the system integration is expressed as below: the author takes the UGII software as the integrated system' s CAD platform ,which has the strong functions of geometrical molding and NC manufacturing , and use the UGII secondary develop tool桿GII/OPEN API(USER FUNCTION)梩o develop some special extended modules for design process; the author takes the Moldflow software as the integrated system' s CAE analysis tool. The Moldflow software has the perfect analyzing functions, it can carry on the filling analysis, pressure-maintaining analysis, cooling analysis, warping analysis , and so on various functions for injecting progress. Using this CAE tool, designer can imitate a series of processes of plastic polymer from molten state to coagulation state, estimate the filling effect (such as short run, air trap, weld junction, stress concentration,etc.) then according to these consequent results, designer can change the unreasonable information in product design and get the best technological conditions. As a consequence, the design of injection mold will make material usage be minimal, quality of plastic be best, and first-time test of filling mold be successful.In doing so, designer can avoid the heavy developing work on software lower architecture, consumedly shorten the period of software development, make the starting point of the software higher and the level of structure better; At the same time, designer can also utilize and exert the strong functions of these current commercialized soft...
