The development of antimalarial compound artemisinin (Qinghaosu) has been reviewed in this thesis. The process of researches can be divided into three stages according to summary of reports on artemisinin and their derivatives; The latest studies focus on antimalarial mechanism mainly. Enlightened by biochemical course of infection Plasmodium cause and by molecular action mode of protein alkylation, we've assumed creatively that coenzyme A in cell membranes of malarial parasites could be potential target artemisinin (Qinghaosu) act on. Moreover, we explain the mechanism reasonably that artemisinin damage Plasmodium by alkylation of CoA. Preliminary result has been gained after large experiments on mode of interaction between artemisinin and CoA at molecular level.
