The development trend of mechanical products is high-speed, high-precision and portability, which makes the problem of vibration and noise being severe. So the technique of improving system performance attracts more attention. One of the main means to improve the performance of products is dynamics study which does a quite important role in product designation. Experimental modal analysis is such kind of method which provides a base for amending system structure by extracting system modal parameters from experiment.Improving the rotate speed and its stability of machining centre is an important means to enhance the efficiency. Theoretical model, experiment model and their combination methods are indispensable to study the dynamic characteristics for the complexity of machining centre. In the paper, the process of TH6350 bed machining centre principal axis system is described by using experimental modal analysis method. The main work is as follows:1) Modal analysis, parameter identification, relative signal analysis and experiment method are discussed theoretically.2) Through the analysis of the main process state of TH6350 machining centre, the main cutting force direction of the machine tool is ascertained. Then the actual force in machining process is better simulated by designing the experiment assistant elements and selecting appropriate excitement equipment. Several test schemes which include monitoring sensor, oscillation and data sampling analysis system, together with the equipment adjustment, debugging and parameter setting, are detailed in the paper. Afterwards, dynamic test to machining centre are processed by using sine wave excitation, pseudo random excitation and impact experiment methods .3) The frequency-domain modal analysis is used after the experiments, through which system mode parameters, system characteristic curve and system mode shape are obtained. The system dynamic characteristics are exposed well by curve fitting validity.4) The frequency analysis disadvantages of the MASP software used in the experiment is discussed. Meanwhile, parameters identification method using experiment are reviewed which give an advice to enterprise product performance test.The project is a main aspect of "presentday research of machining center of boring and milling"sponsored by Yunnan Province Natural Science Foundation(2001E0004Z). By analyzing the important part, principal axis system, the relative satisfied study results are obtained.
