In this thesis, acrylate latexes were synthesized by emulsion polymerization technique, and were studied in various conditions, such as monomer feeding, reaction temperature and stirring speed. Copolymerization using methyl methacrylate (MMA) and butyl acrylate (BA) as comonomers were initialized by ammonium persulfate (APS). Futher more, Linear, N-methylol acrylamide (N-MAM) crosslinked and organosilicon modified acrylate emulsions were synthesized , the copolymer composition was characterized by infrared spectroscopy and DSC, and we also test the mechanical properties, hydroscopicity and heat endurance of the copolymers. finally, organosilicon modified acrylate latexes were synthesized by emulsifier-free polymerazation technique, the factors such as ionic strength, comonomer composition, initiator content and comonomer content to influence the polymerization were studied, the copolymer composition was characterized by DSC, and we also test the mechanic properties and hydroscopicity of the copolymers. The thesis also studied the application of reactive emulsifier to organosilicon modified acrylate latexes. The copolymer composition was characterized by infrared spectroscopy and DSC, and the mechanic properties and hydroscopicity of the copolymers were tested by using stress-strain analysis.
