This paper puts forward a new method for deployment and design of sheet metal fabrications. The method sufficiently considers all the factors of sheet metal manufacture process in term of entire design, performing Process -Oriented Deploy of Sheet Metal (POD). A CAD/CAM software system available for sheet metal deploying and baiting is developed based on the methods. The system can calculate the deploying data, generate 3-dimension model, output blue prints for sheet metal fabrication as well as produces process lists and NC program for cutting and baiting .The main contents and innovations are as follows.1 Process -Oriented algorithms for sheet metal deployment. An investigation is made on the constrains to welded seam, sheet thickness, slope type and their influences to sheet metal manufacture process, and a rational method is adopted to treat design and calculation.2 3- Dimension modeling technology of sheet metal fabrication .The technologies of solid modeling, surface modeling and hybrid modeling for sheet metal fabrications is studied according to geometric characteristics of sheet metal fabrication3 CAD/CAM integration technology for sheet metal design. Practice with principle of sheet metal CAD/CAM system is accomplished in detail through analysis of sheet metals' manufacturing process.The achievements and annexes of this paper is widely used and benefit many enterprises and prove rather good.
