Magnesium-base alloys are easy to catch fire when heated at high temperature or melten, and this has become an obstacle to the developing of magnesium-base alloys .So, whether magnesium-base alloy can be used widely depends on the progress of the developing of the flame-resistant technique of magnesium-base alloys. And just for the reason above, this article is finished on the basis of many basic studies about the developing of the flame-resistant technique of pure magnesium. In the article, the originator worked out the mechanism of magnesium-base alloys catching fire; analyzed briefly the influence of the temperature, the heating velocity and the pressure of oxygen in the atmosphere on the lumps and scraps of pure magnesium's catching fire, and designed a practical method to measure the kindling temperature of the lumps and scraps of pure magnesium precisely, with which the initial quantization of kindling temperature can be realized. In this study, the kindling temperature of pure magnesium covered with the boronised substance and Mg-Al alloys, using the kindling temperature measuring method designed in this study, and exploring the boronised substance and aluminium's influencings on the pure magnesium's kindling temperature. The result of the study testifies that the kindling temperature of lumps and scraps of pure magnesium is decided by their fusion temperatures (the higher the fusing temperature, the higher the kindling temperature), and influenced by the heating velocity and the pressure of oxygen in the atmosphere (the faster the heating and the lower the pressure, the lower the kindling temperature obtained from the experiment). Only under the high temperature and during short time can boronised substances prevent magnesium from firing. Aluminium has effect on the magnesium's flame- resisting, and the higher containing of the aluminium in the alloy can bring about much better effect. But the aluminium's effect is limited, and it can't ensure magnesium's melten safely in the atmosphere.
