15min-EC50 of 14 kinds of substituted phenols to Photobacterium phosphoreum, 48h-ECso to Scenedesmus obiliauus, 48h-LCso to Daphnia magua Straus, and 48h- LCso to the Carassius auratus were determined, respectively. There is obvious correlation between the dose and the response of the organic compounds. The trend of the EC50 and the LC50 to four kinds of organism is similar to each other. Daphnia magua Straus is the most sensitive orgnism among the four orgnism according to the toxicity data, and Photobacteriumphosphoreum is in the next place. The toxicity of compounds is different according to the substituted phenols in this paper. The chlorophenols have higer toxicity than alkylphenols. The 2,3,4,5,6-cl-phenol is the most toxical among theChlorophenols (EC50 Pholobaclerium p/josp/jorewm=0.5mg/l, EC50 Scenedesmus obiliauus = 1.10mg/1, LC50 Daphnia magua Straus =0.24mg/l).By using the seven kinds of molecular sructure parameters (LogP, 'Xv, 2XV, 3Xcv, 4Xpcv, , Eiumo), the quantitative structure-activity relationship models were developed. The LogP, !XV and 2XV have close correlation with the toxicity of alkylphenols(r = 0.97-0.99), and the chlorophenols have good correlation coefficent with every molecular sructure parameter we selected (r = 0.84-0.99). For those alkylphenols, the toxicity may be related chiefly to the hydrophobicity, while the chlorophenol's toxicity is controlled mainly by electronic factors. The chronic toxicity of four kinds of phonetic compounds to Daphnia mugua straus was determined. The relationship of the structure and effect of the compounds were discussed by the chronic results. The results show that all the compounds we measured have effects on the reproduction of the Daphnia magua Straus. Two kinds of compound (nonylphenol and octyl phenol) can not only decrease the number of the reproduction, but also affect the parthenogenesis of Daphnia magua straus. The correlation coefficent between the molecular connectivity, the n-octanol/water partition coefficient and the bio-toxicity were significant.
