The catalyst used to lower the freezing point of lubricants with hydrogen is the core of catalytic dewaxing technology. In factory if the catalyst containing zeolite becomes inactive for improper using of it. a great economic losing of the factory would be unavoidable. According to this, this article is focused on the reasons for the inactivity of that catalyst and the solutions when this problem occurred. The catalyst we investigated is "RDW- 1~ which was used in industrial hydrotreating devices to producing lubricant with lower freezing point. All hvdrotreating tests were conducted in a lOOml pilot plant and the conditions were similar to the factory. The composition of each product '~~as analyzed by mass spectrum. The properties of the catalyst were characterized. Then it was found that the blocking of pores in ZSM-5 affected the activity of the catalyst containing this zeolite and it was the trace oxygen in the nifl-ogen that caused the blocking. Moreover according to using several feed oil various in composition. it was found that the content of polyaromatics in feed oil was a more important fact affected the catalyst activity. At last different hvdro-activation conditions were explored to activate the inactive catalyst and the best scheme was ascertained. when it was adopted in the industry devices the activity of RDW- I was resumed soon.
