This article investigated a duplex surface modification technique of GCr1 5 bearing steel using metal ion implantation and High Current Pulse Electron beam (HCPEB) irradiation post treatment. The samples were first implanted with Ti, Cr, Mo and Ta ions and then irradiated by HCPEB. The duplex- treated samples were characterized by AES, SEM, EDS for element and structure analysis and by microhardness, corrosion and wear resistance measurements. The HCPEB post-treatment induces remarkable radiated-enhanced-diffusion towards the inner substrate, with increase implanted-atoms resident depth and uniformity. The micro-hardness, corrosion resistance and tribology behavior were also improved by a factor of 1 to 5.
