Blades, as key parts of aero-engine, have complex geometric shapes, high surface finish and precision. Because of these features, the blade is very difficult to process. Therefore, surface quality and dimensional accuracy are not easy to guarantee. Currently, high-precision milling, repeated manual grinding and offline measurement method are combined for blade manufacturing process. Using this processing technology, blade edge thickness uniformity is poor, dimensional accuracy is low, and processing quality is difficult to guarantee. To solve these problems, blade belt grinding system is established in this paper, and research on blade belt grinding technology is conducted.The designed belt grinding blades system, which is used for 50mm length small leaves grinding, is mainly made up by the six degrees of freedom articulated robot and a belt grinding machine. According to the processing characteristics of small blades, modifications which are conducted for the system are as follows:fixing robot body and belt grinding machine, using 20mm width contact wheel, adding drives, designing the specimen fixture and the blade fixture.Simple cylindrical specimen is used to complete the system’s first test. System’s grinding capabilities are tested by grinding cylindrical specimen. Research on preliminary trajectory planning is conducted. Then, research on complex trajectory planning and grinding is conducted.A user coordinate system is created using calibrated calibration needle. Coordinates of abrasive belt grinding machine are conducted using calibration needle. Simulation grinding system is built by simulation software DPTS according to the coordinates of abrasive belt grinding machine. Trajectory planning is completed by planning of track, programing of track, adjustment of simulation and operation, position and orientation adjustment of actual track point, adding track point and track compensation.Grinding pilot program is designed. Effects of belt speed, belt size and grinding temperature on the blade grinding are obtained through comparison of test results. The system optimum grinding belt speed is 17m/s, and the maximum surface roughness of the specimen blades is 0.592μm. Finally, system processing errors are analyzed and compensation method is proposed.Blade belt grinding system built in this paper can be applied to the small blade specimen grinding. The research in this paper has guidance on the practical application of blade belt grinding system, and lays a foundation for further research of the blade belt grinding technology.
