Water pollution has become increasingly serious with the industrial development, moreover, nitrogen pollution has become a top priority. However, nitrogen pollution control is not enough in China, endangering human health. Therefore, it is imperative to develop an efficient denitrification process for Chinese national conditions. Traditional physical chemical treatment methods cost too much, it is easy to produce secondary pollution and is limited. Due to ANAMMOX process and CANON process high efficiency and low cost, these processes have drawn lots of attention in the field of environmental engineering and research workers. In order to speed up the full-scale application of ANAMMOX process and CANON process, fast start-up of anaerobic ammonium oxidation(ANAMMOX) reactor and under the circumstance of high concentration of nitrogen, denitrification characteristics of ANAMMOX process and CANON process, inhibition and recovery measures were investigated in the present research.By inoculating the mixed sludge from nitrifying sludge and ANAMMOX sludge as seed sludge with high speed, the removal rate of ammonia, nitrite nitrogen and total nitrogen was 94 %, 82 % and 81% respectively. Nitrogen removal rate(NRR) of 1.46 kg N/(m3·d) was accomplished after 47 days. Fast start-up of anaerobic ammonium oxidation(ANAMMOX) reactor with nitrogen removal rate(NRR) of 3.72 kg N/(m3·d) was accomplished after 123 days. The p H, conductivity were simple indicators of ANAMMOX performance. Influent NH4+-N/NO2--N molar ratio was found to affect the ANAMMOX performance significantly. Therefore, it is necessary to regulate the optimal influent NH4+-N/NO2--N molar ratio.High concentrations of ammonia nitrogen and nitrate were studied under the circumstance of different HRT in the present research on the R1、R2 reactor, it is easy to produce inhibition on the R1、R2 reactor when the influent NH4+-N concentrations and NO2--N concentrations were 560±20mg/L and 630±20mg/L, the average removal rate of ammonia, nitrite nitrogen and total nitrogen of R1,R2 reactor lower 78.06%、79.97%和 72.65% respectively. The nitrogen removal effects of two reactors were not stable. By reducing influent NH4+-N concentrations and NO2--N concentrations, nitrogen removal rate(NRR) of R1、R2 reactors regain 7.8 kg N/(m3·d) and 6.5 kg N/(m3·d). p H、conductivity can be served as simpleindicators of performance of ANAMMOX reactor. It is extremely necessary to observe the reactors every day in order to know the operation process of the reactors, once the operation problems are found, effective measures will be taken immediately.Nitrogen removal efficiency fell sharply of the CANON reactor under the condition of high concentrations of DO(Dissolved Oxygen) in the mixed liquor, it is obliged to take some effective measures to recover the removal effect of the CANON reactor, such as reducing the inflow concentration of ammonia nitrogen, extending the HRT, reducing the concentrations of DO(Dissolved Oxygen) in the mixed liquor, and the recovery effect was very obvious. The removal rate of ammonia and total nitrogen of CANON reactor was 95.47%、77.41% respectively, nitrogen removal rate(NRR) of 1.34 kg N/(m3·d) was accomplished during 388d-447 d. It is usual to encounter all situations such as jam of water inlet and outlet, precise control of the DO, sludge sedimentation, erosion problems of sludge and lack of inorganic carbon source, etc. Therefore, it is very important to discover problems timely and some valid measures should be done right away.
