In recent years, more and more serious air pollution has drawn an increasing attention. There is a great uncertainty in the air pollution and air quality because of multiple factors and spatio-temporal variability. Therefore, a comprehensive and in-depth study on air pollution is in need. As the air pollutant, the spatio-temporal features, physical and chemical properties, and the resource of aerosol has been a hot area of reseach.In this paper, Xuzhou City, the center of the Huaihai Economic Zone, and Shijiazhuang City, the representative polluted city of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region are taken as the study areas. Ground-based and satellite data are employed to study the characteristics of aerosol in study aeras. For the ground-based observation, a CE-318 sun photometer was used in the fixed monitoring, and two MICROTOPS II sun photometers are employed for the mobile monitoring within the second ring of Shijiazhuang City. For the satellite data, MODIS AOD was used for the analysis. First, the feasibility of MODIS AOD in the studied areas was verified with the ground-based data. Then, AOD of a larger range area was analyzed.By means of the fixed and mobile observation experiment, the ground-based and satellite data, the spatial and temporal analysis, using mathematical statistics and model analysis. The spatio-temporal features and optical characteristics of aerosol of Xuzhou City and Shijiazhuang City were obtained.
