Glass Engraving Machine has showed a vast potential for future development in our country as a kind of CNC equipment to engrave glass automatically. The CNC controller, which has been used widely on Glass Engraving Machine now, cannot meet the market demand for functional diversity and openness. It is a feasible method to improve and develop Glass Engraving Machine controller using CNC communication protocol based on the traditional CNC technology and CNC platform. This method can meet the demand of the CNC Glass Engraving Machine manufactures and users to some extent in low cost and short development cycle.A CNC Glass Engraving Machine controller software platform has been developed based on NML communication protocol, using a structure mode of the upper and lower machine. The industrial computer with the Windows operating system has been used as the upper machine, while the lower machine is an embedded ARM microprocessor with real-time Linux operating system. The main work of this article is as follows:Based on the research of traditional CNC Glass Engraving Machine controller structure, a scheme of a CNC Glass Engraving Machine controller software platform, using a structure mode of the upper and lower machine has been proposed.Based on the analysis of the data communication features of CNC Glass Engraving Machine controller between the upper and lower machine, the data communication message classes and interfaces have been designed using NML communication mechanism. The data communication message interfaces have been invoked and the communication processs have been designed in both the upper machine and the lower machine. Aimed at the requirements of glass automatic engraving on control and process, several key control techniques have been designed in the controller, which are biaxial synchronization, real time compensation of grinding wheel wear, wheel mounting error compensation and grinding process. The Human Machine Interface of CNC Glass Engraving Machine has been developed using QT graphics libraries. The HMI of CNC Glass Engraving Machine and the delivery and response of NC events have been realized by making full use of component technology and QT signals and slots mechanism.Based on the work above, the development of CNC Glass Engraving Machine controller software platform has been completed. Software system test platform has been built to test the functionality and usability of the software. At last the ability of software platform on practical application has been proved through using it on the four-axle CNC Glass Engraving Machine of Wuhan Kepu NC equipment Co.LTD.
