With the development of modern manufacturing technology and the constant changes of practical needs, higher design standards are demanded for the Machine tool. The column of TK6932 super-heavy-duty CNC boring and milling is one of large movable components, and its static and dynamic characteristics directly influence the whole machine’s performance. At present, the design methods are mainly traditional and conservative, which result in the irrationality of structure and complexity, redundancy of materials, and further restrict the whole machine’s performance and reduce the competitiveness of products. Therefore, it’s necessary to conduct structure innovative design and parameter optimization.In this paper, with the idea of structural bionic design, bamboo is taken as the biological prototype and the column of super-heavy-duty CNC boring and milling is conducted innovational structure design and parameter optimization according to the research idea of “bamboo structure analysis-cylinder bionic design-column bionic design- parameter optimization”. The main contents are as follows:(1) The 3D model of the column has been established by Pro/Engineer, and the finite element model has been built through importing ANSYS Workbench environment. The static and dynamic characteristics of column structure performance metrics have been got by stiffness analysis and modal analysis, which shows that the structure is necessary to optimize design.(2) Combining the experimental method with the existing data, the macro and micro structure and mechanical properties of bamboo are analyzed. With the use of material mechanical calculation, the relationship between the micro structure characteristics and mechanical properties is obtained; Based on this conclusion, the similarity analysis is carried out on the machine tool column with bamboo using the theory of similarity. And the rationality of taking bamboo as the biological prototype is proved appropriately.(3) Based on the macro and micro structural features of bamboo, bionic design criteria was proposed to design cylinder structure bionic; The optimizable space of the columns is analyzed, and combined with the cylinder bionic results, the bionic structure design of the columns is further conducted. Besides, the new two columns configuration A and B are put forward and the bionic column configuration is determined through the evaluation and comparison.(4) Aming at the bionic configuration which can be optimized, mathematical model of the optimization with the lightest structure quality and the minimal static displacement response is established. The design variables are determined based on sensitivity analysis method and multi-objective optimization is conducted with the target drive optimization technology. Besides, the optimal sizes of pillar about bionic configuration parameters are acquired.
