Cold crucible electromagnetic metallurgy as a kind of leading technology in the field, experts and scholars have made a lot of basic research and practical application. The use of cold crucible electromagnetic technology not only achieve the desired purity, but also the characteristic of high speed, high efficiency, the melting of high uniformity, which caught people’s attention. However, the energy utilization rate of melting process is very low, in order to solve this problem, this paper puts forward a method of using ANSYS software to simulate the process of melting in cold crucible.Through analysis the factors affecting of the energy utilization rate of col d crucible, it uses ANSYS software to simulate and analyze the electromagnetic field and temperature field in the process. In the electromagnetic field, simulation discusses the effect of the cold crucible split process(including split type, split the number and width of slit) on the effective utilization rate of Joule heat effect on the melting process, and gets the reasonable power parameters(current frequency and current intensity). Based on the results of the electromagnetic field, in the temperature field, it simulation analyzes the temperature distribution, the calculation of shell thickness, the influence of power parameters and intensity of cooling water on the thickness of solidified shell.By analyzing the simulation result, obtaining the conclusion: the outer diameter of crucible is 0.18 m, the inside diameter is 0.16 m, melting 14.27 kg steel. The effective utilization rate of Joule heat rate reached the maximum value when using the connectivity structure of slit; The most appropriate number of split is 16; Using the "narrow slit" principle in the cold crucible design, the width of crucible’s slit should be 3mm; When the power frequency is 100 k Hz, the strength of the current is 340 A, the cooling water is 71.6 L/min, the most suitable thickness of solidified shell is 20.5mm,which ensure that the effective utilization rate of energy reached the highest value. It reduces energy consumption, and provides theoretical guidance for the efficient smelting of cold crucible.
