Based on the demand of medical examination glove material which desired low modulus in high elongation and high rebound performance, a series of waterborne polyurethane were synthesized from diphenylmethane diisocyanate (modified-MDI), polyoxypropylene glycol (PPG-2000) and dimethylol butanoic acid (DMBA) by self-emulsifying.The effect of hard segment content, hydrophilic chain extender species and content, R (the ratio of NCO/OH) value, the amount of crosslinking agent and polyester diol on the emulsion appearance, relative molecular mass, average particle size, viscosity, storage stability, water resistant performance, mechanical properties and thermal properties of waterborne polyurethane film were studied by by Fourier Transform Tnfrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), viscometer, Malvern zetasizer, mechanical testing machine, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetry analysis (TGA).From analysis the following conclusions could be made.1. The waterborne polyurethane synthesized from PPG2000, modified MDI, DMBA, DEG and TMP could meet the requirements of medical examination glove.2. The optimum composition and process synthesizing waterborne polyurethane was determined. With the hard segment content of 35%, DMBA content of 5%, R value of 1.15, TMP content of 1%, solid content of 25%, the synthesized waterborne polyurethane emulsion had the following properties: emulsion particle size was 49.36nm, viscosity was 137.4mPa.s, tensile strength was 21.37MPa. elongation at break was 621%, modulus of specified 100%,300% elongation were 1.94MPa permanent set at break was 5.9%, water absorption was 7.2%, the soft segment glass transition temperature was-45.91℃, the hard segment glass transition temperature was 62.36℃. These properties could almost meet the requirements of the medical examination glove material.3. Medical examination gloves made of waterborne polyurethane material which was synthesized in this study, exhibited excellent high rebound performance and ageing resistance. The synthesized waterborne polyurethane with High Performance provides a good foundation for the future exploration and industrialization of environmentally medical examination gloves.
