The EAF (electric arc furnace) is already the crucial equipment in the modern steel enterprises. And the electrode regulating system plays an important role in improving working properties, reducing the cost of power consumption and enhancing the production efficiency. As the core part of electrode regulating system, control strategies have already become the key research object. So research on control strategies for electrode regulating system of EAF is the main work of this paper.This paper is based on 140-Ton electric arc furnace of the Steel Co.Ltd. By consulting a great deal of documentation, the history, crafts, equipments, features, present state and developing trends of control strategies for electrode regulating system of EAF are summarized in this paper. Depending on exhaustive analysis and full understanding of every part’s principles of electrode regulating system, the models of arc, three-phase power supply system and hydraulic system are established. At the same time, the validity and rationality of electrode regulating system model are proved by the computer simulation experiments.In order to research the effects of different control strategies on electrode regulating system of EAF, this paper analyses the control strategies of constant current, constant power and constant impedance in detail. Then four control systems of different structures and different control strategies are designed based on the features of research object. After that, we analyses the stability of the four control systems and simulate about some related performances.Finally, according to analyses and comparison of the simulation results, we reach an agreement on the superiority and practical applicability of the double closed-loop control system based on constant current strategy inside and constant impedance strategy outside. At the same time, it also provides theoretical knowledge and guidance for the use of double closed-loop control system in the practical electrode regulating system.
