Metal cutting fluid is one of the most important liquids that are used in almost all metal processing and automobile industry. Metal cutting fluid has many functions, such as a cooling, lubricating, antirust, flushing and so on. So it plays a dual role of heat transfer and friction reduction that reduce the heat generated in working. With the fast development of modem machinery manufacturing industry, the usage of the metal cutting fluid is increasing rapidly. After the long-term use of the metal machining, it’s function gradually reduces, even completely out of action, it will degenerate into industrial wastewater, then we call it the waste metal cutting fluid.Nearly 15% of effective component in the waste metal cutting fluids is out of action, and 85% of effective component in the waste metal cutting fluids could be recycled. Waste metal cutting fluids can be a very valuable resource, if managed properly Recycling waste metal cutting fluid, not only can reduce the machining cost, and also can avoid the waste of the resources for the country. Researching on the recycling technology of the waste metal cutting fluid has become an important research subject in the modem curing field.This paper introduces the effect of the metal cutting fluid and the harm of waste cutting fluid simply. It introduce the following things in detail, such as the components of different kinds of metal cutting fluids and a variy of recycling technologies of waste metal cutting fluids. A novel recovery process of the effective ingredient from the waste metal cutting fluid was proposed by the combination of solvent extraction and solid adsorption technique. The influence factors such as the volume fraction of 1-butanol, the ratio of solvent to oil, the quantities of KOH and the extraction temperature were studied through experiments. The results show that:the maximum quality of oil sludge was obtained when added 3g KOH to waste liquid(200ml).The mass of oil sludge was found to increase with the increase of solvent to oil ratio until it reached the maximum at the ratio of 2:1. The liquid properties of the recovery oil are basically the same, it can be utilized.
